- The film that was originally asked for is most likely JUDITH. Frank
- Maloney has already answered that. I will point out that the Army
- officer that fought for Israel was David "Mickey" Marcus. He was a
- WWII hero in the American army. He was a division commander and
- attended the "Big Five" meetings in 1943. He volunteered for the
- D-Day airborne assault and parachuted into Normandy. He helped to
- oversee the military government in Germany after VE-Day. He got the
- Distnguished Service Cross, the Bronze Star, and various British
- decorations.
-
- The film covers the post-war period when Marcus was recruited by the
- Hagganah and in January, 1948 he smuggled himself into Palestine
- where he helped set up military training for the state trying to come
- into existence. On June 11, 1948, during the War of Independence he
- made the fatal mistake of forgetting his own password and was killed
- by his own troops.
-
- Billy Mitchell enlisted in the Army in WWI, rose to the rank of
- Brigadier General and organied the expeditionary army air force.
- After the war he became a very outspoken advocate of military air and
- strategic bombing power. It rose to the point that his superiors
- considered to be insubordination and he was court martialled in 1925,
- found guilty, and eventually resigned from the army. In WWII, most
- of his ideas were adopted.
