  13. Regarding the movie The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover, 
  14. I have some comments, but more importantly, some questions.

  16. First, I was introduced to it by my twenty-four-year-old son. 
  17. He was quite keen on it. I, being not quite twice his age, 
  18. found it interesting cinematically, but dull in language, 
  19. limited in scope, short on anything approaching a philosophical 
  20. message or social comment (at least with any consistency) and, 
  21. in short, childish catharsism. I didn't like it, but I certainly 
  22. wouldn't condemn it.

  24. Now the important stuff. My wife did! Condemn it that is. 
  25. She took such offense that by the point of the sadistic 
  26. torturing of the singing youth, she left the room (I saw it on video).
  27. Later she told me that she was deeply offended. This reached 
  28. the point emotionally that I was targeted for a spell and 
  29. then all men became the target, and finally she settled 
  30. down and claimed that only insensitive (or very young 
  31. and stupid) men would like anything in that movie.

  33. Well, I challenged her (a mistake?) and said that I 
  34. would look for a group on the net that talked about 
  35. movies and would poll them for opinion.

  37. But I see that there aren't many women posting to 
  38. these groups. While I don't want to discourage the 
  39. opinions of men I do however, somehow want to encourage 
  40. the opinion of women.

  43. discussion then just send email directly to me.
