  19. I never said he was a bad actor, I said he was overrated.  I find his acting
  20. to be flat, in general.  He doesn't have much depth.  He hasn't really changed
  21. the types of roles he plays.  Take Nicholson, for example, or Al Pacino.
  22. Both of them emote well.  Costner doesn't.  That's why I find him overrated.

  29. Then what does overrated mean?  Costner, in my opinion, doesn't stand 
  30. above others, so he is therefore overrated.  He's had the good fortune
  31. to star in some good movies, but being in a good movie does not make him
  32. good as well.  Bull Durham, Field of Dreams, and Dances with Wolves were
  33. much better than average stories, adn he was lucky enough to be in those
  34. movies.  (I guess he was so great in The Big Chill that they edited out his
  35. part so as not to outshine the rest of the film :-)

  43. Nope, not by my definition.  My feeling is that you have to flop before
  44. you can make up for a "bad" role or set of roles.  Tom Cruise had recently
  45. made Days of Thunder and also Cocktail (whatever that bartending movie
  46. was called), and *then* he starred in Rain Man.  He had everywhere to go
  47. but down.  Right now, I'd say Costner was in the same place Cruise was then.
