- It WAS real, though it wasn't done especially for the movie. The
- local religious customs of that area of the Philipines included a
- ceremony with the sacrifice of a cow (water buffalo? Well, some kind
- of bovine), and Coppola caught the ceremony on film to add spice to
- his movie. It wasn't staged just for the movie, though; Francis just
- happened to be in the right place at the right time.
