- From the Dec. 31, 1992 edition of the New Orleans Times-Picayune:
-
- Williams' wit: too racy for Disney?
-
- By Luaine Lee, Knight-Ridder/Tribune News Services
-
- Robin Williams likes to make up life as he goes along. It's not
- enough to be able to mimic everyone from Saddam Huseein to Sara Lee;
- Williams also is the gold medalist of ad libs.
-
- Much of the charm of "Aladdin" results from Williams' quick-witted
- repartee and droll one-liners.
-
- But the folks at disney were not always enchanted with his Genie's
- incantations. "I would go off sometimes beyond the bounds of Disney,"
- he admits, "(like) 'Minnie has nipples.' They would talk about and
- try things. I would know (if it was unacceptable) or sometimes they
- would say, 'I don't think we can do that.'"
-
- They cut the comments that were considered too randy for delicate
- ears, says Williams. One shtick that Disney found a tad too indigo
- was a cheer that Williams improvised toward the end of the film.
-
- "Rick 'em, rack 'em, ruck 'em, ruck 'em -- get that snake and really
- -- fight.' They kind of went, 'Well, I don't think so,'" he says,
- pursing his lips. "But you're playing with the boundaries. That's
- why I did it: to try to put a little spirit of the old Warner Bros.
- cartoons into a Disney cartoon."
