  25. In all three of the latest Disney animated films (Little Mermaid, BaTB,
  26. and Aladdin) my question is 'Where are the mothers?'  Neither Ariel, Belle,
  27. or Jasmine are shown to have mothers.  Where are they?  What is Disney trying
  28. to say about family structure and father/mother(less)/child relationships?
  29. My first quick impression would be that the position of motherhood and a
  30. mother's role in the family is 'belittled' by its non-inclusion.  Though   
  31. another thought that comes to mind would be that since the main characters
  32. are female (Ariel, Belle, Jasmine) there sometimes exists more 'conflict' 
  33. between daughters and their fathers (especially teenage years) and Disney
  34. is trying to concentrate on this part of the family scene.  Though I think
  35. Disney should have included a proper role for the mother in these films.
  36. (actually someone correct me but I don't remember Ariel having a mom, or at
  37. least her mom's role in the movie was VERY limited, been a long time since
  38. I saw it.....)  Any other opinions?
