- I have just finished Eve's Tattoo, the most recent book by Prager. A Vintage
- Contemporary published by Random House (pp US 10$). This is the first book by
- this author I've read...brilliant.
-
- Eve is just turning 40 and 'celebrates' her birthday by getting the number of
- a Death Camp victim tattooed onto her arm (#500123). She does this as a
- memorial statement to the women whose picture she has come into contact with.
- Eve dubs this woman Eva and winds up telling friends and strangers varying
- stories about who "Eva" was and how she spent the war. Note: Eve is not crazy
- and although her act is totally outrageous the story is a compassionate look
- at 'modern' people looking back at the war. Compelling as hell.
-
- Prager has also written A visit to the Footbinder and Clea and Zeus
- Divorce as well as WW2 Resistance stories (which, I believe, would be
- nonfiction.
-
- Anyone else read this writer? If not, do.
