- Dashiell Hammett's _The Maltese Falcon_ was my last book this year. I
- am wondering about a certain passage:

- The boy stared at Spade's tie. Spade nodded as if the boy had said
- yes and asked: "Baumes rush?"...

- What's the orgin of this? I've heard the expression 'bum's rush, but?

- Incidentally, I couldn't read this book without the seeing the movie in
- my mind's eye, a pleasurable experience (Eco's Name of the Rose is another)
- for me.
