- Blimey! Someone's mentioned books on r.a.b. My membership of the Folio
- Society has lapsed and the money is spent on nappies instead, but I acquired
- some nice books over the course of four years or so. The quality of the
- cover design, bindings and illustrations makes them very pleasant to read.
- The current list often includes some off-beat authors among the classics.
-
- Samuel Pepy's diary, Gerald Brenan's 'South From Granada', Sybille Bedford's
- 'A Visit to Don Otavio', Pietro de la Valle's 'The Pilgrim', and five of
- the eight volumes of Gibbon's 'Decline and Fall' (they stopped printing them
- before I completed the set, regrettably) number among my modest Folio
- collection.
-
- Our transatlantic cousins might find them a bit pricy at around $30,
- but they don't compare too unfavourably with the price of new hardbacks.
