  24. Yes, in equally varying quality. But a good solid shelf works just as well,
  25. if not better, unless you have to move your whole collection often.

  27. More importantly, there are a few things to remember when storing tapes of
  28. any kind:

  30. * Keep them in a dry, dust-free area. Nothing will kill a tape faster than
  31.   collecting dust or moisture; and a combination is devestating.
  32.  
  33. * Store the tape standing on a narrow edge. Stand tapes on any of the 1"
  34.   narrow edges, not "flat". This keeps the tape inside from resting on it's
  35.   edge, which could cause curling and crumpling.
  36.  
  37. * Fast forward a tape to the end before rewinding it. This helps the tape
  38.   wind on the spools evenly, which helps protect the edges from curling or
  39.   crumpling in storage or if the tape is accidentally dropped.
  40.  
  41. * Fast forward and rewind tapes that don't get watched often a couple of
  42.   times a year. This will help keep the tape from stretching or sticking to
  43.   itself.
