  11. Man, you guys really have me looking forward to UY#4. A film that is
  12. well made and recondite (as apposed to just being BAD) is a rare
  13. and wonderful thing (any Andrei Tarkovsky fans out there?).

  15. Along these lines, any place I can look for anotations of UY? Along
  16. the lines of AnimEigo's liner notes, but more thorough. I mean,
  17. Ilove the show but my apartment gets rather drafty from all the
  18. jokes and references flying over my head. I have never really
  19. believed that having a joke EXPLAINED totally ruins it. Like,
  20. how many Americans understand the name "Ford Prefect" from Hitchhiker's
  21. Guide? I didn't -- but I was glad to find out...

  23. I made some progress showing UY to some non-anime friends over Xmas.
  24. At least one guy got some good laughs out of it. I've been slowly
  25. working him through Akira, Lodoss Wars, MS Gundam 0080, and now the
  26. UY episodes. I'll try Beautiful Dreamer on him next.

  28. In watching Dreamer again myself I was impressed all over again --
  29. noticed things like the number of times the little girl in the hat
  30. appears, or that Ataru's dreamharem dissolves into the same black & 
  31. white mannequins he saw in a truck early in the film...
  32.  
  33. This also leads me to ask about a good book on Japanese mythology
  34. -- and I mean a good one, not just one with lots of colorful pictures
  35. and brief myth synopsises... This comes from noticing the rather
  36. different interpretations of the spirit "Baku" in Dreamer and
  37. Vampire Princess Miyu...
