-
- I don't think he was ever *that* close to falling for her. My reading of
- the TV series is that he liked her a lot, and early on couldn't say no to
- her advances given his nature and his focus on his iffy relationship with
- Madoka. Before long he and Madoka were trapped in a situation where
- they didn't want to hurt Hikaru, and didn't necessarily have a good
- reason to (given their shyness, etc.).
-
- >If Ayukawa hadn't called that night, would Kyosuke have snapped out of it

-
- I agree; remember when he and Hikaru part at the pedestrian bridge over
- the railroad, where he clenched the fence after she leaned against him
- (and probably kissed him, although I can't tell for sure)? Madoka's
- reaction to the first kiss was already prompting his choice.
-
- >but Hikaru was playing Kyosuke pretty well for 3+ years, and could have
- >pulled her little game off...
-
- And I think this is one of the keys to his harsh behavior. At this
- point Hikaru was getting seriously manipulative, and given his liking
- for her, and his general problem with being decisive, that was probably
- the only way he'd ever break up with her. Speaking from experience, in
- these sorts of situations it's best to give *nothing* away, for any sort
- of response can and will be used as a tool to further manipulate you.
-
- Seems like a lot of people (including myself) watched this movie over
- Christmas....
