- thmartin@romulus.rutgers.edu:
- Akane and Madoka relationships has definite lesbian tone.
-
- doi@jrd.dec.com:
- Sees this as idol worship. Like Akane worships Madoka as an object,
- e.g. teddy bear.
-
- ramberg@futon.SFSU.EDU:
- Agrees with Hitoshi. Keeps "KOR's sensitive approach to sexuality".

- A couple of points in both directions.
-
- 1) I tend to agree with Martin-san. The relationship does kind of looks that
- way. Plus, Martin-san is providing a female perspective (I think there just
- some things guys really don't know about and how women view other women is one
- of them). Also, my wife had a similar reaction when we saw "Unexpected
- Situation" (James, I think this is the OAV you were thinking of). She thought
- Akane's fascination with Madoka was "unusual" and, in that OAV, it was only a
- small example. BTW, she also felt the same way with B-ko's fascination for
- C-ko in Project A-ko. A-ko's motives seemed normal but B-ko's determination
- and the way she expressed it ... ?
-
- 2) However, since my wife is an anthropologist, the obvious question came up,
- "Is this a Japanese thing?" Hey, men in Europe will hug as part of normal
- (and expected) greetings. In the Middle East, it's normal for men to walk
- hand in hand down the street. But by U.S. standards, ... ? A lot of guys
- don't even like to shake hands. Perhaps, Akane and Madoka's relationship is
- the way teenage girl idol worship looks in Japan (though, probably exaggerated
- as most things in entertainment media are). Anyone with first hand experience
- care to comment? Hey, where's Maiko Covington when we need her?
