- Kaiyodo Kits... actually, their pricing isn't too bad... (Kaiyodo is by far
- one of the cheapest kits around, relatively speaking)
-

-
- In general, injection kits are like what any other plastic models you can buy
- off the shelf; Tamiya, Fujimi, DML, etc. Injection kits are produced in
- quantity so although overhead is high, the cost is spread across several
- hundred thousand kits, making them cheap.
-
- Garage kits on the other hand, are typically produced in limited quantity,
- and production methods are quite labor intensive (thus they with come the price
- to boot too) They are usually made out of polyurethene resin or soft vinyl
- with greater detailing than injection kits so they are quite popular with
- a certain segment of model building population...
-

-
- That's mostly BS; if the store is doing direct importing from the manufacturer
- it is already getting volume discount. Even AFTER importation tax and shipping
- (by sea) it is still no where near what are generally been charaged for these
- kits. My suspecion is that it has more to do with the OPERATIONAL COST overall,
- rather than just the kits. Most stores that carries stuff like this generally
- don't sell much other stuff, and it is difficult to "make-it" depending solely
- on the sales knowing that the market itself is limited.
-
- If you can get someone in Japan to pick up the stuff for you, you're looking
- at at least 30%-60% saving right there. However sources in Japan doesn't
- exactly grow on trees...
