- Regarding the BGC 2 LD:
-
- Starting with the BGC 2 LD, we decoded the Dolby A soundtrack in the
- studio in Japan and piped the noise-reduced audio directly onto the
- D2 tape. This tape passed our check here in Japan (and we looked at
- it with a scope) and a further check in the States. It was then
- made into an LD Master, with both digital and analog (CX-encoded)
- soundtracks.
-
- In other words, the audio is as clean as the original source material,
- and current technology, allow. If you are hearing hiss, it is either
- an artifact of your stereo system, or the unavoidable residue of the
- LD mastering process.
-
- After all, when you digitize audio, even a no-audio condition has tiny
- fluctuations around the zero-point, and if you turn up the volume high
- enough, you are going to hear that (and subsequently get your brain
- turned to tapioca when the real soundtrack starts).
-
- THe bottom line is, at realistic audio levels, and at normal viewing
- distances, do you hear anything untoward? I think you will find with
- the Volume 2 LD, that you don't.
-
- Regarding Volume 1, we have confirmed that the audio wasn't decoded
- when the LD was mastered, and we will be remastering it, but we haven't
- completely worked out with 3M all the details. More later.
