  12. This is a compilation and re-edit of the data I had compiled from several 
  13. books.  Use at your own risk.

  15. A general list of brackish water fish:
  16.     Puffers
  17.     Scats (Scatophagus spp.) 
  18.     Monos (Monodactilus spp)
  19.     Anableps 
  20.     Achirus species (soles, flounders; select the tropical brackish soles)
  21.     Pipefishes
  22.     Sailfin mollies and their relatives like mosquito fishes (Gambusia
  23.         species) and pike livebearer (Belonesox belizanus)
  24.     Etroplus maculatus and E. suratensis (Asian cichlids sold as Orange 
  25.         and Green Chromides respectively)
  26.     Malayan halfbeaks (Demorgenys pusillus)
  27.     Indian glassfish (Chanda ranga, get the non-painted ones!!!)

  29.     killies:
  30.         African: Aplocheilichtys spilauchen (a lampeye)
  31.         Middle Eastern: Aphaniops dispar, Aphanius iberius,
  32.             other Aphanius species
  33.         Eastern USA:
  34.             all over the eastern seaboard: mummichog 
  35.                 (Fundulus heteroclitus)
  36.             brackish swapms of Florida: American flagfish 
  37.                 (Jordanella floridae from 
  38.         Western US: desert pupfish (Cyprinodon salinus)
  39.         S. American: Rivulus ocelatus (a hermaphroditic species)

  41.         a huge number of the nominally freshwater killies will 
  42.         do splendidly in water that is quite brackish -- and many 
  43.         of the African and South American species look as colourful
  44.         as marine fishes)

  46.     Asian Dantinoids (get too big for small tanks), 
  47.     Asian and Australian Archers,
  48.     some Australian rainbows (like Melanotenia macculochi), 
  49.     gobies: Australian gudgeons (like Mogurnda mogurnda),
  50.         a number of other gobies, like sleeper gobies

  53. A general list of plants that tolerate brackish water:
  54.     Java moss, Java fern, Elodea densa (Anacharis), Hygrophila polysperma
  55.  
  56. As long as the water is not VERY salty: 
  57.     Echinodorus tenellius (pigmy chain swords), Sagittaria subulata, 
  58.     S. graminea, S. gigantea, Vallisnaria americana, Water sprite, 
  59.     Hornwort.
