- Assistant Shift Supervisor- Systems and Networks:
-
- My responsibilities include all operations duties
- for a large computer operations center. I routinely
- perform system startups, shutdowns, and backups. In
- addition to administering my own machine, I have written
- the procedures and code necessary to perform the system
- backups on our VAX-Ultrix system. I am a member of the
- committee designing the new backup, archiving, and
- vaulting procedures needed for the "AFS" environment
- currently in use.
- I have written all the documentation for the
- procedures that I have developed. I am also called upon
- to review other documents for correctness and additional
- input. I have coded an interface that allows operators to
- easily update the system status, yet provide a readable
- text file for users to access. When not maintaining the
- programs and procedures that I've developed, I upgrade
- and enhance the Ultrix machine that I administer. Examples
- include the incorporation of AFS, implementing an anonymous
- FTP service, and upgrading various tools to the GNU
- versions available.

- Student Programmer/Consultant- Academic Computing:
-
- I worked to help create a relaxed atmosphere in
- which I could aid users in finding solutions to their
- various individual problems. I contributed to the design
- and implementation of the software tracking system,
- which utilized Dbase. I was also a participant in the
- "consultant database" project. This project, written in C
- on an Ultrix platform, utilized SQL for it's relational
- database. Other lab duties involved keeping the software
- up to date, backed up, and secure.

- Temporary Engineer:
-
- I assisted the engineers in organizing test equipment
- data into databases and spreadsheets for analysis and
- presentations to customers. I also performed part research
- in my work on the "PCD catalog consolidation" project. I
- wrote application programs to obtain, verify and process
- test data for determining part performance.
