- Princeton University's Computing and Information Technology (CIT) organization
- has an immediate opening for one person to join the UNIX Systems Programming
- staff in providing technical support for the Sun Microsystems Computer
- Corporation facilities owned and operated by CIT. Our public UNIX environment
- consists of a approximately 9000 user accounts spread across a Sun-690 Model
- 140, an IRIS 4D/460, a cluster of 25 ELCs and 5 SPARCStations 2 Color
- workstations, a cluster of 30 NeXT stations, cubes, and NeXTDimensions, and 2
- clusters totaling 50 SGI IRIS workstations. Our server and support environment
- consists of an Auspex File Server, 15 Sun-3/60 and Sun-3/50 workstations,
- SPARCStation-2s and SPARCStation-10s, and Sun IPX servers.

- The person responding to this advertisement must have the following
- credentials: a minimum of an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or
- equivalent experience; two years experience with the Sun Microsystems Computer
- Corporation's version of UNIX and administration procedures including system
- software installation, patch installation, file backup and restoration, NFS and
- NIS; experience with applications-level TCP/IP, low-level TCP/IP (subnetting,
- network debugging) and Domain Name Service; experience in programming and
- debugging in C, sh, csh, awk, and sed; experience with at least one windowing
- system at the user level (OpenLook, Motif, X, etc.).

- The duties of the person to be hired include: install, upgrade, and patch
- versions of the Sun Microsystems Computer Corporation operating system; install
- and repair of public domain and campus licensed software; analyze and tune
- system performance; analyze and correct security violations; provide support to
- other CIT staff; act as a UNIX resource for other departments on campus;
- research and purchase follow-on systems and peripherals as needs arise; work
- with hardware support (both internal and vendors) to solve problems; interact
- with professors to help them with various aspects of their courses.
