  20.     Academic Computing is looking for a Systems Manager for the college's
  21. approximately 24 Unix workstations.  The systems manager is responsible for day
  22. to day support of the workstations, including assistance to users, user account
  23. maintenance, disk backup, software installation, documentation, and other
  24. related duties.  Experience in a multi-vendor academic environment and with
  25. networked HP workstations is a plus.

  45. Position Title: Unix Systems Manager
  46.

  48. Basic Function:
  49.     Provide the technical support needed to install and maintain all Unix
  50. system software and hardware in a networked workstation environment.
  51.  
  52.  
  53. Qualifications:
  54.     B.A., in a science, mathematics, or engineering; two or more years
  55. experience as a systems manager in a networked Unix workstation environment; or
  56. an equivalent combination of education and experience.  Must have good written
  57. and verbal communications skills.

  60. Duties & Responsibilities:
  61.  
  62. 1. Provides user support for applications and system software, including
  63. answering questions, troubleshooting problems, developing documentation, and
  64. offering workshops.
  65.  
  66. 2. Maintains a standard software environment, including the system software,
  67. network software, and applications software.
  68.  
  69. 3. Installs new system, network, and applications software and maintains a
  70. liaison with the vendor to insure timely corrective action for problems.
  71.  
  72. 4. Installs new hardware and maintains a liaison with the vendor to insure
  73. timely corrective action for problems.
  74.  
  75. 5. Insures the overall operating integrity of the systems, including user
  76. accounts, security, printing, and disk backup.

  78. 6. Supports the integration of the Unix systems with the other hardware and
  79. software platforms on campus.

  81. 7. Provides technical assistance as necessary.

  83. 8. Reports to and meets regularly with the Director of Academic Computing and
  84. works closely with the Director of the Engineering Design Center.

  86. 9. Performs additional duties as deemed necessary.
