- Academic Computing is looking for a Systems Manager for the college's
- approximately 24 Unix workstations. The systems manager is responsible for day
- to day support of the workstations, including assistance to users, user account
- maintenance, disk backup, software installation, documentation, and other
- related duties. Experience in a multi-vendor academic environment and with
- networked HP workstations is a plus.

- Position Title: Unix Systems Manager

- Basic Function:
- Provide the technical support needed to install and maintain all Unix
- system software and hardware in a networked workstation environment.

- Qualifications:
- B.A., in a science, mathematics, or engineering; two or more years
- experience as a systems manager in a networked Unix workstation environment; or
- an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have good written
- and verbal communications skills.

- Duties & Responsibilities:
-
- 1. Provides user support for applications and system software, including
- answering questions, troubleshooting problems, developing documentation, and
- offering workshops.

- 2. Maintains a standard software environment, including the system software,
- network software, and applications software.

- 3. Installs new system, network, and applications software and maintains a
- liaison with the vendor to insure timely corrective action for problems.

- 4. Installs new hardware and maintains a liaison with the vendor to insure
- timely corrective action for problems.

- 5. Insures the overall operating integrity of the systems, including user
- accounts, security, printing, and disk backup.

- 6. Supports the integration of the Unix systems with the other hardware and
- software platforms on campus.

- 7. Provides technical assistance as necessary.

- 8. Reports to and meets regularly with the Director of Academic Computing and
- works closely with the Director of the Engineering Design Center.

- 9. Performs additional duties as deemed necessary.
