  18. The Department of Computer Science of the University of Troms\o invites 
  19. applications for a position at the level of Associate Professor.  We are 
  20. particularly interested in candidates with experience and interest in 
  21. open distributed systems (i.e. multi vendor distributed systems and 
  22. heterogeneous integrated information systems). Other (supporting) areas 
  23. of strong interest include distributed computing, databases, and programming 
  24. languages for distributed systems and applications.

  26. The open distributed systems research at the department currently focuses 
  27. on functional and schematic integration of heterogeneous information bases. 
  28. In this work we follow an approach of unifying concepts from semantic 
  29. data modelling, database programming languages, and distributed open 
  30. systems (ODP, OMG/ORB).

  32. THE DEPARTMENT. The CS department consists of 12 full time research faculty 
  33. positions and 2 adjunct faculty. We offer BS, MS and Ph.D. degrees in 
  34. Computer Science. Our computational facilities include a network of about 90 
  35. HP Apollo 720, 730/735 and 755 with Unix/X11/NFS. Our installation is 
  36. connected to international computer networks through the Norwegian University 
  37. Network UNINETT.

  39. THE UNIVERSITY. The University of Troms\o is located at high latitudes inside
  40. the Arctic Circle. In spite of its location, Troms\o enjoys a surprisingly
  41. mild climate due to influence from the Golf Stream. The University Campus
  42. currently has about 5,500 students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate
  43. programs.
