- Russ,
-
- I incorporated myself in California using a Nolo Press book by Anthony Mancuso
- called, wouldn't you know, "How to Form Your Own California Corporation".
- My advise here depends on a person's ability to deal with a fair amount of
- detail. Are you are the kind of person that hates to get his hands dirty, or
- simply can't stand to fill out forms, or refuses to do even essential
- paperwork? Then do not incorporate yourself, yourself. Use a professional,
- someone who will do the job correctly.
-
- If you're somewhat interested in the incorporation process, buy a good book on
- how to incorporate in *your* state. Read it. Then, *maybe* go with an outfit
- like The Company Corporation. They'll probably do the job right, but only for
- a certain generic types of companies. Some details that you will probably
- want in your corporate bylaws won't be there, although they can be amended
- later.
-
- Third, do it all yourself. I knew nothing of incorporating, running a
- corporate entity, and all that stuff when I started. Now, I feel pretty
- comfortable about the whole thing. And I saved myself about $1000 in legal
- fees.
-
- I guess this is pretty obvious, but whatever route you take, get informed.
- If you do go to a lawyer, it may cut down on the time and thus the fees.
-
- Good luck!
