- Someone just recommended the "Golden Rule" short-term health insurance
- to me, and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with them or
- with any other similar plan.
-
- The deal is this: reasonable-looking Major Medical and cheap premiums
- ($150/month for full family coverage). No basic doctors visits or
- other day-to-day stuff, just coverage against the big stuff (surgery,
- hospitalization, accidents, etc.) which can cause financial ruin.
-
- The coverage is available for a 1 to 6 month period, and you are
- allowed to renew it up to two more times, giving coverage for at most
- 18 months. Part of the down side of this plan is that the deductible
- is *per incident* and that in case of a major accident occurring while
- you are covered, they only maintain coverage for treatment up to 2
- years after the incident.
-
- The reason I'm interested in such a thing is in a few months I'll have
- real coverage available as a benefit of my wife's job. This short
- term coverage seems like a reasonable kind of thing for a consultant
- who's just leaving the security of a full-time job, since it's so
- cheap.
-
- I'm curious if anyone knows about this company, if they are reliable,
- if they've been around, etc. Also, if anyone can recommend a
- reasonably priced insurance plan, I'm all ears.
-
- Either e-mail or post; I'll summarize if there's enough response.
