  31. The mistake in using this to dispute homeopathy is the assumption that
  32. homeopathic remedies "work" in a similar way to allopathic drugs.
  33. Homeopathic remedies for infections do not kill the bacteria, they
  34. reinforce the ability of the person's defensive capability to kill
  35. the bacteria.

  37. One possibility is that the dilution process (which is more complex
  38. than just a simple dilution) modifies the matrix such that the
  39. immune system believes it is seeing the actual ingredient.  The
  40. exact operation of the immune system is still not known, so
  41. alternative methods cannot be discounted.  The theory behind
  42. Avogadro's number may challenge the part of homeopathy that involves
  43. the microdose, but it does not disprove it.  Note also that the
  44. microdose is not central to homeopathy.  It was a later addition
  45. that was found to increase its effectiveness.  The Law of Similars
  46. is the foundation of homeopathy.
