- I had a similar problem with my first real, full time computer job, after
- leaving an academic position. My back on the right side including my shoulder
- became almost paralysed. What I did to correct this was quit. The day after I
- left, the pain and stiffness disappeared!
-
- I`m not advocating this as a treatment, but it does raise an issue that diffi-
- cult to deal with delicately. What my example points at is the psychological
- component of health/illness. Dealing with just the symptoms and not the mean-
- ing of the symptoms is asking for trouble. Please refer to Larry Dossey's new
- book, "Meaning and Medicine". Please note that I'm NOT saying that symptoms
- shouldn't be dealt with. That`s like saying to a person with a broken leg,
- don't get it fixed, or don't use crutches. But as Dr. Dossey points out,
- behind many, many illnesses lie messages that are not adequately dealt with by
- most practitioners. Eliminating the symptoms, does not get rid of the under-
- lying issues that make us susceptible to the factors that cause disease/illness.
