- This is sometimes the case, unfortunately. Because there is no mandated
- purity standard for these substances in this country, they are sometimes
- adulterated. I would be more wary of substances to come out of Hong Kong
- than of those coming from Taiwan and the mainland.

- Now, a lot of the Chinese herbs that are used really don't do any good
- at all. Some of them may be dangerous if misused. Most of them are
- either innocuous placebos, or fairly safe compounds, however, and are
- definitely not "illegally marketed and dangerous."

- This is a statement I would doubt. While it's possible that this kind
- of adulteration has taken place once or twice in the past, it's not routine.
- After all, valium, librium, and the like are expensive. The people who
- adulterate drugs generally do so to reduce cost, not to increase it.
