  27. I'm personally on guard to being sucked into a cultural movement into
  28. alternative medicine, i.e. letting it become an all-encompasing lifestyle
  29. sort of deal where you *always* do something and *never* do the other.

  31. I don't have data, but I'll share some personal reflections;
  32.  
  33. My OMD (TCM Doctor) often makes comments about sending patients out
  34. to seek conventional treatment specifically in the case of suspected
  35. infections. He feels that TCM can treat infections, but much slower
  36. and usually with a level of follow-up care that he can't always provide.
  37. He sees nothing wrong with using antibiotics when they're really needed
  38. instead of allowing an infection to linger on.

  40. I see a Chiropractor relating to a history of back problems and while
  41. she occasionally will adjust my back in the hopes of improving my asthma,
  42. she's never claimed she could cure it. While I understand some of the 
  43. reasoning behind using chiropractic for a total health care system,
  44. it still seems like wishful thinking to me. If your friend hasn't 
  45. kicked her sinus infection by now, I think she's really being unrealistic.

  47. I guess if you're so stubborn about using alternatives that you'd allow
  48. yourself to be sick so long, you deserve what you get. I know that in TCM
  49. they talk about chi (vital life force) and in homeopathy as well, and if
  50. your chi just isn't strong enough I suppose it's realistic to understand
  51. why alternative medicine would have a hard time doing the job.

  53. I personally feel that there needs to be a balance to everything in life,
  54. and it sounds to me that your friends may be lacking in it.
