  28. Three years ago, a Haitian hijacked a plane to Miami for the
  29. same reasons as the group of Cubans who recently arrived
  30. here. Contrary to the reception given to the Cubans, the
  31. Haitian guy is still in jail facing criminal charges in New York.
  32. He was a soldier who was unwilling to participate in the
  33. murderous and criminal activities of the Avril government.

  35. Today we are seeing a different situation. This is not an issue
  36. of Cuban versus Haitian. It's one of separate treatment. If they
  37. are unable to keep Cubans, they must release them. The
  38. same policy must be applied to Haitians and all other
  39. nationalities.

  41. In contrast to the treatment given to the Cubans, many
  42. Haitians have called to say they were moved from Krome to
  43. Calport Louisiana to make space for the Cubans. In solidarity
  44. with those removed, the Haitians at Krome and other
  45. nationalities have entered into a hunger strike. This may result
  46. in the loss of many lives. We condemn this unjust treatment
  47. and believe it to be inhumane. We have therefore made a
  48. request to the acting director Wayne Joy to release them
  49. immediately.
