- Hi Mary, We have 5 staff people at our school of 20-24 students. Two are
- paid by the Vancouver School Board, and three are paid for by our non-profit
- society. We all do counselling even though 3 of us are "teachers" and 2 are
- "counsellors". I do a drug and alcohol group that lasts about 10 hours total
- time, but many of our kids drink and do marijuana, hashish, and coke to
- varying degrees, so it is constantly dealt with. Our rule is that a student
- has to be clear headed during school hours, so if a kid comes stoned or
- mentally trashed from recent taking of drugs [incl. alcohol], they are sent
- out for the day. If it happens too frequently, they must come in with their
- guardian [parent, social worker or house parent] and talk about why they want
- to be in school [ this is before they are allowed to attend class again].
- If you want to visit our school, phone the Phoenix Program at 604-253-1505
- and talk to Lou Fisher [our Program Director]. Tell him that I have invited
- you to visit through Ed_Net. Looking forward to a visit from you. Tim
