  35. On Sunday Dec 20th, UUNET will be reorganizing its local ethernet
  36. layout to better handle increasing load.  In addition, UUNET will be
  37. reallocating the IP addresses for some of the production hosts.  This
  38. reorganization has forced the normal Sunday dumps to be pushed back by
  39. two hours, so they will start at noon Eastern time on Sunday.  As
  40. usual, UUCP customers will be unable to transfer files while dumps are
  41. occurring.

  43. Additionally, after the dumps are finished, there will be additional
  44. time during which UUNET will be unreachable while the actual re-wiring
  45. and testing of the new network organization is performed.  During part
  46. of this time period (which should start at 3:00pm EST), AlterNet
  47. connectivity may experience several small routing flaps.  No routing
  48. problems should persist more than 15 minutes.

  50. When the reorganization is complete, UUCP customers should not see any
  51. functional differences in service.  Customers who use TCP/IP to
  52. communicate with UUNET and use the nameserver (BIND) to resolve
  53. addresses should have no problem communicating with us.  Only people
  54. who are using hardwired IP addresses for UUNET hosts addresses should
  55. have problems.  Given that DNS has been widely deployed on the Internet
  56. for over five years, this should not be a problem.  If your hosts are
  57. not using DNS at this time, we strongly urge that you switch all your
  58. computers to use DNS for hostname resolution.
