- The 911 & 924 in fact do support 1280x1024 in 16 colors, but only
- interlaced. And I simply won't recommend you to use an interlaced
- display with respect to your eyes.

- BUT, the 911 & 924 are very fast in the 16 color mode, since they have
- to work only on half the memory compared to the 256 color modes. That
- means you get around 90000 xstones in that mode. Hence for special
- applications this makes sence.

- I don't know whether the XS3 server does support it, but I'm sure SCO
- does, and I think the SGCS supports this mode as well.

- On the other hand the 911/924 support only 1MB of VRAM (also
- internally limited by the architecture) which means you cannot have
- more than 256 colors AND have acceleration. You could use the SVGA
- compatable 32k/64k modes, but that would be either very slow or the
- resolution to small (64x480).

- The also mentioned 801/805/928 do support up to 4MB (with some
- specialRAMDACs like the Bt485). The graphics engine of the upper chips
- does support 4bpp/8bpp/16bpp/32bpp. This would give you up to
- 1024x768x16.7M which seems to be acceptable for me in the future. But
- be carefull about the 801/805, which are DRAM based. I doubt whether
- they will signifcantly exceed the bandwidth required for
- 1280x1024x256. Hence they might not be able to display
- 1024x768x16bpp/32bpp.
