- I suspect there's a simple answer to this.
-
- I've added a host (let's call it newhost) to our net. I cannot reach
- another host off our site with telnet, ping or rlogin from newhost but I
- can from other hosts here. We run yellow pages, our nameserver is a
- VAX 4000. If I want to reach a host called outsidehost the following
- results;
-
- ping gives -> unknown host outsidehost
- rlogin gives -> unknown host
- telnet gives -> Hostname lookup failure
-
- I guess I'm not getting to our nameserver but as a new sysadmin I'm not
- well enough versed with unix/ultrix configs. The host newhost is a
- `diskless client' like our other diskless clients. rc and rc.local are
- the same. I'm uncertain if our VAX sysadmin has included newhost in the
- nameserver tables, or if this is required.
-
- Any help and/or pointers would be appreciated.
