- Gosh this sounds familiar. I did almost exactly the same thing. Spent
- about 3-4 hours installing *everything*, then ran through their script
- to change the display type from a standard VGA type to something that
- would make use of my 1024x768 256 color display card (Orchid) but
- guessed wrong on which one would work. The result on reboot was a system
- that I couldn't do anything with. The install instructions didn't
- point out that if anything went wrong your console would be unusable,
- nor did they give any method of recovering. Poking around later in
- some of the display setup stuff on disk did give an explicit obscure
- sequence which could be used to abort X and drop back to a pure text
- login: prompt. Anyway, the only way I could recover at the time was
- to do a complete reinstall again.
