  12.     I am having problems getting Xfree86 running, it seems to initiaize
  13. the screen fine , but then switches back to text, and hangs the console
  14. port (still can telnet in). I found out that there is an error that
  15. the server is reporting but never showing, I can only get this error on
  16. a system that is telneted in, it is:

  18. failed to set default font path '/usr/X386/lib/X11/fonts/misc/,/usr/X386
  19. /lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/'
  20. Fatal server error:
  21. could not open default font 'fixed'
  22.  
  23.     I am trying to install this on two machines, and it does the exact same
  24. thing on both machines. Of course the directory entries are correct and
  25. mkfontdir has been run in each directory. There is an fonts.alias file
  26. in the misc directory that lists 'fixed' as misc-blahh-blahh and that
  27. entry does appear in the fonts.dir as 6x13.psf.Z
  28.     Does anyone know what is wrong? why isn't the server able to
  29. set the font directories?
