- Hello,
- The previous posting of mine was not accurate. I heard that
- Aurora Technologies' OCR was based on Calera's engine. So,
- apart from its window interface, its accuracy must be the same
- as its PC/MAC versions. Has anyone heard of the quality of
- WordScan/Plus? I vaguely remember it was inferior to OmniPage and
- OmniPage was inferior to Kurzweil, a Xerox Imaging Systems' OCR.
- I simply wonder why Aurora dared to claim that it had 'unparalled
- accuracy and speed'. (In the price range, I presume).

- e-mail will be appreciated.

- P.S.
- ScanWorX from Xerox Imaging Systems costs $14,500 with the scanner.
- I heard software only cost some $8,000. Contact 800-248-6550
-
- Aurora Technologies' OCR costs less than $2,000 (not too sure).
- Contact 617-290-4800
-
- I don't know how to contact Calera Recognition Systems, sorry.
- OmniPage is a product by Caere Corp.
-
- Needless to repeat, but ScanWorX has been the only OCR on Sparc
- platform, but its price is still a problem. (ScanWorX is not very
- good but is judged to be usable by many. Good OCR's cost hundreds of
- thousands dollars-- for people who need to scan thousands of pages a
- day. I just like to read some five hundred pages of newspaper and paper-
- backs a day --- five to six point poorly printed characters).
