  26. Read the zs man page.  It tells you how to configure the port to dial
  27. out without CD asserted using a device with minor number 128 greater
  28. than the corresponding /dev/tty*
  29.  
  30. This, combined with disabling echo and result codes and using the &D3
  31. mode to reset the modem, will work for outgoing and incoming calls.
  32. You can then set the modem so CD follows carrier.  The built-in locking
  33. will prevent getty from opening the corresponding /dev/tty* device when
  34. CD goes high on outgoing data calls.

  36. You can put an initialization string in applications such as Kermit that
  37. use result codes in order to reset echo and result codes if needed.  The
  38. /etc/ttytab should not say "local" for the modem port. There should be
  39. no /etc/ttytab entry for the outgoing line (/dev/cua*).
