- License to Develop. In the event that the customer desires to develop software
- programs which incorporate portions of Software("Developed Programs"), the
- following provisions apply, to the extent applicable. Developed programs are
- to be OPEN LOOK(R) compliant and have an application programming interface that
- is the same as that of Software. ... (continues)
-
- [the term 'Software' refers to the Solaris 2.1 software as supplied]
-
- Is this an attempt by Sun to force users, via the license conditions, to
- develop only for the OPEN LOOK environment, rather than, for example, Motif.
- Virtually all software developed for the Sun platform will incorporate the
- Sun libraries, and will therefore come under this condition.
-
- What does it mean by OPEN LOOK(R) compliant ? How is this legally determined ?
-
- Has anyone else got any ideas on this ?
-
- I am just curious. Do you receive this CD as part of Sun's
- early-access program for ISVs Independent Software Vendors)?
-
- If so, it stands to reason that Sun has imposed some conditions for
- the previledged ISVs to receive the release early so that the
- early-access program is used to promote application software packages
- that runs on Solaris.
-
- However, if this is part of ordinary customer shipment, this condition
- sounds strange to me. Are there any other fine prints? I am curious if
- the omitted portion of license says something relevant in this
- context.
- (I understand that the early access CD is made available to large
- accounts such as big universities, too. In that case, the customers
- who just wanted to peek at the upcoming systems may have received the
- CD, too. Could this be your case?)
-
- The office where I work has received the beta localized version (read
- Japanese version) of Asian Solaris 2.1. This is part of our ISV
- Catalyst program participation. I intend to check the compatibility of
- our software packages with the future release. End customer shipment
- date is not available yet for this Japanese version of Asian Solaris
- 2.1. In order to obtain this early access, we had to sign an
- agreement.
