  12. Hi,
  13. I have a problem with our networked SPARC printer.
  14. FYI a SPARCprinter is the Sun equivalent of the NeXT
  15. laser printer. It uses the Sun CPU for its raster image
  16. processor. Instead of 'real' Postscript, the Sun uses
  17. Sun's NeWSprint clone.

  19. Anyhow this SPARCprinter is the printer I'm using and I'm 
  20. having some difficulties. Basic text files print pretty well.
  21. If I print a text-only word perfect file it comes out fine.
  22. Likewise, drawings from Appsoft Draw come out fine (although
  23. the SPARCprinter is terrible at grayscale).

  25. The big problem seems to be images. If I import a TIFF into
  26. Draw or WordPerfect then print it, the Sun churns away, but 
  27. never prints. If I print something from Grab same thing happens.
  28. This is a serious problem because I do need to print images.
  29. Generally the images are the result of Grab since my image
  30. processing software runs under X11 either locally or remotely.

  32. In my printcap I'm giving the SPARCprinter type as just plain
  33. old "PostScript" like this:

  40. I think the Sun is running the second to most recent release of
  41. NeWSprint (2.?).

  43. Has anyone else run into and (hopefully) solved this problem?
  44. My guess would be that NeWS is the problem...
