- Hi,
- I have a problem with our networked SPARC printer.
- FYI a SPARCprinter is the Sun equivalent of the NeXT
- laser printer. It uses the Sun CPU for its raster image
- processor. Instead of 'real' Postscript, the Sun uses
- Sun's NeWSprint clone.
-
- Anyhow this SPARCprinter is the printer I'm using and I'm
- having some difficulties. Basic text files print pretty well.
- If I print a text-only word perfect file it comes out fine.
- Likewise, drawings from Appsoft Draw come out fine (although
- the SPARCprinter is terrible at grayscale).
-
- The big problem seems to be images. If I import a TIFF into
- Draw or WordPerfect then print it, the Sun churns away, but
- never prints. If I print something from Grab same thing happens.
- This is a serious problem because I do need to print images.
- Generally the images are the result of Grab since my image
- processing software runs under X11 either locally or remotely.
-
- In my printcap I'm giving the SPARCprinter type as just plain
- old "PostScript" like this:
-
- lp | SPARCprinter1:\
- :lp=:rm=<<Sun machine name here>>:rp=lp:\
- :sd=/usr/spool/NeXT/SPARCprinter:\
- :ty=PostScript:
-
- I think the Sun is running the second to most recent release of
- NeWSprint (2.?).
-
- Has anyone else run into and (hopefully) solved this problem?
- My guess would be that NeWS is the problem...
-
- Thanks in advance,
- Eric S. Boltz
