- If it's OK for individuals to sell machines here, why complain about a
- straightforward (no hype) price list from a business that happens to have
- more than one for sale? Maybe the original poster would be happier if the
- group were named "comp.sys.next.fleamarket"?
-
- I've written some wacky "announcements" that were filled with fake hype
- flacking icons and login tiffs. Of course, I'm giving them away, so it's
- not directly commercial. But it increases awareness of my company within
- the Net community. A nit-picker could argue that indirectly, that's a form
- of marketing. (Let me dissuade you from that line of thinking: I just like
- to have fun, and I'm willing to share the wealth.) Also, I give out a ton
- of free advice to programmers in c.s.n.programmer. At the same time, my
- company sells objects and kits. Am I subtly using the Net to gain a
- marketing advantage if I reference work we've done in response to a
- request for help? I don't feel that way, but nitpickers could argue that
- my contributions are not purely altruistic.
-
- The rest of Sam's argument, I agree with. All of us who want to sell
- within this small (and slowwwwwwwwwwwly growing) market should be allowed
- all of the non-abusive help we can get from our Net friends.
