- I had a strange error at startup. I had my system freeze up, then when I
- started up, the finder couldn't load my startup-disk, so finder kept on
- resarting itself. I tried the disk tools disk, and it booted, and loaded the
- disk, three windows would appear, then the finder would just cycle through
- them. I couldn't get the the finder to start up the disk first aid.
- I rebuilt the desktop, and this didn't solve the problem. I reinstalled
- the system, and that fixed it. Disk first aid said that the disk needed
- opps did not need fixing.
- Any ideas on what the problem was?
- System 7.1, Mac IIci, 32-bit enabled, various inits.

- David,
-
- I had a similar problem with my Powerbook 170 running system 7.0.1 (8
- MB memory, System 7 Tuner 1.1.1, with and without INITs installed).
- The Finder would just keep restarting. When I tried to boot from a
- floppy, I got two folder windows continually being selected, one after
- another.
-
- I fixed the problem by holding down just the option key when the
- Finder was trying to boot from my hard drive. I don't understand what
- just holding the option key does -- it was a fortunate accident.
- Anyone have any ideas (besides a corrupted system folder or desktop
- file-- remember, I couldn't even boot from a floppy, and I rebuilt my
- desktop)?
