- Since I'm trying to catch up on about 2 weeks of backlog, I've only been
- reading. But I have to say something before this gets out of hand.

- First, in response to the Powerbook comment, I don't think "sleep" is the
- same thing as "off". If I remember correctly, "sleep" shuts down most of
- the components to conserve power.

- A commercial alternative is PowerKey. It runs around $75 through
- MacWarehouse, and is a hardware/software combination that turns on any Mac
- when the power key (the one with the sideways triangle) on the keyboard is
- pressed. The software also allows you to set unattended power-ons and
- shutoffs, and launch QuicKeys macros (to make an unattended hard drive
- backqp, for example.) You can also buy a $35 add-on that will turn a Mac
- on via a phone call (great for doing file transfers, for instance.
