  19. Do you have a special background pattern now?  Something from a program like
  20. WallPaper, Desktop Textures, or Before Dark?  If so, you need to de-install
  21. those, and then you'll get your color patterns from the General Control
  22. Panel.  In Desktop Textures, you can choose the "Control Panel Compatible"
  23. pattern (plain grey).  There should be an equivalent in the others.

  25. Also, did you do a "Minimal installation for <your machine>" when installing
  26. the OS?  If so, it's possible that the color pattern resources didn't
  27. install, although I would think that the first solution is more likely.
