  18. The Macintosh Bible 4th edition is a good reference book for the mac.
  19. For ResEdit there are two guides for using ResEdit 
  20. One is called Resedit 2.1.1 Reference Guide and contains info on what the
  21. resources are for.
  22. The other is "RedEdit Complete" by Peter Alley & Carolyn Stange 
  23. (ISBN 0-201-55075-X) It show more on how to use Resedit at a
  24. beginners level then the Reference Guide does.
  25. One warning: both these books came out before the existance of Sys 7.1.
  26. As a result the information on international(intl) resource is dated as

  31. In System 7.1 there not to be ANY fonts in the System FILE.(A bug in the
  32. Installer causes fonts to be put there in an upgrade from 7.0.x to 7.1.  These
  33. fonts should be removed from the system file; leaving them there eventially 
  34. will cause printing and memory problems and finally a system crash.)
  35. There have been reports of a bug in Sys 7.1 that will cause truetype fonts
  36. to go corrupt if they are outside a FONT suitcase.  In any case all fonts
  37. (TrueType or PostScript) SHOULD go into the font folder and due to the bug
  38. TrueType fonts should be in font suitcases INSIDE the fonts folder (As far
  39. as I know the bug does not effect PostScript fonts) 
  40. Keeping fonts inside the font suitcase gets around the limited number of files
  41. open problem.  System 7.1 can read the fonts only from a limited number of FILES
  42. the rest are ignored by the system.
  43. This is very basic info and does not cover everything on either of these two
  44. subjects.  Hope it helps though.
