  26.   We had a similar problem with a 45MB third party removable drive (from a
  27. French assembler, but it's basically a syquest). We had exactly the same
  28. problem with a Q950, and the message appeared randomly. We didn't have
  29. any "offical" explanation neither from the manufacturer nor Apple. But i 
  30. guess it's a problem of the SCSI bus (notice that the A900 & 950 have different
  31. SCSI bus than other Macs ) which should be very sensitive to noise, and may 
  32. interpret random noise signals as a signal comming from the drive saying 
  33. "unredable disk" (such signals aren't interpreted when you diable the 
  34. extension). Given that when you click on Eject the machine continues to
  35. work well, and the drives reads and writes carts correctly, there's no need to
  36. panic. I've just left it as it is, SCSI manipulation is a a sort of black magic
  37. and sometimes a good prayer may be more helpful than tech support :-).
