- Hello!
-
- From some of the videocard discussions, I thought someone might be able to
- answer the following quandary. I have a Sony 1304S monitor & a MacIIci.
- I am now thinking about getting a 24-bit video card. My choices are
- the Radius Direct Color/GX ($299 at MacDepot) and the Radius 24xp ($499).
- The Direct Color GX is a 24 bit accelerated color board
- that's limited to 640x480 pixel resolution while the Radius 24xp is a 24 bit
- accelerated board that supports BOTH 640x480 and 832x624 pixel resolutions.
-
- The question for me is whether the 1304S monitor can handle resolutions
- in the Mac environment other than 640x480. I've called Sony and have been
- told yes and no on different occasions. Mac User implies the 1304S is
- an autosync and presumably could handle the different resolutions. Radius
- doesn't say anything about non-Radius monitors, but said since the 1304S
- could handle up to 1024x768 in the 1304's spec sheets, it might work with
- 832x624. MacDepot said no, MacNews said yes, etc.
-
- Because of all the uncertainty above, I'm not certain what the real story
- is.
-
- Sony calls the monitor and Multiscan Color Computer Display. Its specs say
- it has 1024x768 viewable pixels, the vertical sync signal frequency is
- 55-110 Hz, and the Horizontal sync signal frequency is 28-57kHz. From the
- spec timing charts, it supports 1024x768 interlace, 800x600 noninterlace,
- and 2 types of 1024x768 noninterlace. Presumably, there are other noninterlace
- resolutions supported. I adjust the screen size manually per Sony's instructions
- for non PCs.
-
- Any knowledge about whether the Sony 1304S will support the Radius 24xp's
- 832x624 mode? (I've given up on Radius and Sony.) Presumably it doesn't matter
- which manufacturer's video board is being asked about since the question is more
- about the use of multiple resolutions with the 1304S monitor with the
- MacII family.
-
- Anybody out there run into this situation?
-
- Thanks in advance,
- Scott Pector
