- Actually I was going to ask a similar question...
-
- However, I can say that for a Mac you have to disable Unit Attention and
- SCSI Bus Parity and on some HD's Synchronous Mode Transfer Request which
- Macs don't support.
-
- I don't know what/which jumpers you'll need to disable for the Seagate
- ST1480N, since each manufacturer has them in different places. You might
- try calling Seagate at (408)438-6550 or 800-468-3472.
-
- As for a formatting program for the HD, if you don't have a generic
- formatter such as Casablanca's Drive 7, OnTrack's Disk Manager Mac,
- La Cie's SilverLining, FWB HD Toolkit, SCSI Director etc... you might want to
- consider getting one. Though the best would be to find a friend who has
- recently purchased a HD and see if the formatting utility they got with
- their HD will work on yours. If it does, and you like, it buy it.
-
- I believe SCSI Tools (not the cdev) is still available at
- sumex-aim.standford.edu, which _might_ be able to format your HD.
-
-
- Which brings me to my question: A SCSI device is a SCSI device - isn't it?
- And if set for a Mac (even though it was previously used on an MS-DOS
- machine) it should work (if as above, the jumpers are set right) - right?
-
- And yes, it does have it's own controller card attached to the HD, and yes
- again I did call the manufacturer - HP - and guess what? They just make them
- and sell them to other parties so they couldn't tell me a how to set the
- jumpers!
-
- HP model in question is 97544SC - as reported by SCSI Probe and FWB HDT.
-
- If anybody can help with jumper settings for this HD or knows who I might
- contact - other than HP - I'd appreciate it!
-
- Thanks in advance!!!
