- hi...merry christmas. yeah, i know i should be dreaming of sugar plum
- fairies, but...
-
- I've got a friend's mac plus that keeps coming up with a sad mac
- almost every time i turn it on.
-
- wait wait, before you send me to Larry Pina's Dead Mac Scrolls or
- Macintosh Repair and Upgrade Secrets (which, are, by the way, great
- otherwise, and have allowed me to revive other dead macs), let me tell
- you that i've scoured both of those books and can come up with
- nothing...
-
- here'e the scoop.
-
- turned it on, got a beep (not a bong) and a sad mac.
-
- error codes ranged all the heck over the place, the only pattern i
- could see was 01nnnn, where n could have been anything. oh, and
- another pattern that appeared (i've got nearly 40+ different
- codes--mail me if you want to see them all), was nnnn3x (where x was
- some letter A-E, and nnnn01 (where n could have been anything).
-
- what else...oh, i plugged in my multitester, the voltage from the
- power sweep board is reading a steady 5.0v, um, i can scrounge up
- another plus around here and try plugging the motherboard into that,
- and i can try plugging in a hard drive i suppose. (it's only run off
- of floppies, as far as i know). Can anybody think of a reason not to
- plug the (dead) motherboard into a good power supply? What about vice
- versa- (good) motherboard into (dead?) power supply?
-
- replaced the old 256k simms with my old 256k simms (which were from a
- plus as well).
-
- any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. i'm home (sf
- bay area) for the holidays until tuesday, and then i head back to
- santa barbara. i'd like to give this mac back to my friend in working
- order before i leave. hopefully if i need any parts fry's or
- someplace in san jose will be able to oblige me.
-
- thanks a lot :}
