  14. I've got a friend's mac plus that keeps coming up with a sad mac
  15. almost every time i turn it on.

  17. wait wait, before you send me to Larry Pina's Dead Mac Scrolls or
  18. Macintosh Repair and Upgrade Secrets (which, are, by the way, great
  19. otherwise, and have allowed me to revive other dead macs), let me tell
  20. you that i've scoured both of those books and can come up with
  21. nothing...

  23. here'e the scoop.

  25. turned it on, got a beep (not a bong) and a sad mac.
  26.  
  27. error codes ranged all the heck over the place, the only pattern i
  28. could see was 01nnnn, where n could have been anything.  oh, and
  29. another pattern that appeared (i've got nearly 40+ different
  30. codes--mail me if you want to see them all), was nnnn3x (where x was
  31. some letter A-E, and nnnn01 (where n could have been anything).

  33. what else...oh, i plugged in my multitester, the voltage from the
  34. power sweep board is reading a steady 5.0v, um, i can scrounge up
  35. another plus around here and try plugging the motherboard into that,
  36. and i can try plugging in a hard drive i suppose.  (it's only run off
  37. of floppies, as far as i know).  Can anybody think of a reason not to
  38. plug the (dead) motherboard into a good power supply?  What about vice
  39. versa- (good) motherboard into (dead?) power supply?

  41. replaced the old 256k simms with my old 256k simms (which were from a
  42. plus as well).

  44. any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  i'm home (sf
  45. bay area) for the holidays until tuesday, and then i head back to 
  46. santa barbara.  i'd like to give this mac back to my friend in working
  47. order before i leave.  hopefully if i need any parts fry's or
  48. someplace in san jose will be able to oblige me.
