- When the Mac first came out, there was a book with hints and tips about
- using the Mac (don't remember the name, but I doubt it was the Mac Bible).
- One of the tips was how to use a phone handset cord as a keyboard cable.
-
- In short, using one straight out of the package is a Bad Idea(tm). You see,
- Apple, in all their wisdom to keep people from using phone cord for a
- keyboard cable, moved some of the wires around. Using a regular handset
- cord could result in damage to the Mac.
-
- The solution is easy: just get a coninuity checker and determine the wire
- configuration of the keyboard cable. Then buy a handset cable and a new
- modular connector. Snip off one of the old connectors, rearrange the wires,
- and put the new one on.
