  11. Our university PR department is operating a LaserWriter IIg on an
  12. ethernet network and appleshare. The computers printing to it are
  13. Macintosh IIcx's, IIsi's, and LCII's. We have noticed two glaring
  14. problems.

  16. First, both QuarkExpress and PageMaker 4.2 can not print correctly
  17. to the IIg when large test is being manually kerned. The kerning
  18. fails miserably, with some letters touching and others much further
  19. apart than they should be.

  21. Second, we have used PageMaker to access the Photogray capabilities
  22. of the IIg. It works great except for a 10% photogray. It does not
  23. print that at all.

  25. We have tried several things. First, we took the files we were
  26. having trouble with to another department with a IIg and had the
  27. same kerning problems and 10% photogray problems with PageMaker.
  28. Second, we tried the photogray problem out on a IIf as a test and
  29. had no problem at all. Third, we have sent the manually kerned
  30. text to a IINTX, and a Personal LaserWriter NT and it printed
  31. perfectly.

  33. What are our solutions to this problem? Both IIg have been on
  34. ethernet networks. Are these ports defective? We are planning
  35. to test this out during the holidays by connecting the IIg to
  36. another computer using only localtalk. Could the drivers for
  37. PageMaker and QuarkExpress not be properly written for the IIg
  38. (including Apple's own driver)?
