- Well, I've been wondering about this myself, so I got a tape measure and
- checked my wife's SytleWriter vs my DeskWriter:
-
- SW = 13" wide x 20.5" deep x 12" high
-
- DW = 17" wide x 15" deep x 8" high
-
- (Sorry for the archaic units, it was all I had handy...)
-
- The DW will fit under an 8" high shelf (although you'll have to pull it out
- to flip up the top to change ink cartridges); the SW needs a little extra
- clearance
- above its 12" height in order to feed paper into its more-or-less vertical
- paper holder/feeder.
-
- The SW _looks_ a lot smaller, until you unfold its Rube Goldberg-esque
- paper catcher thingie: then its footprint expands greatly (the SW is only
- 9.5" deep with it closed).

- The SW print quality _is_ (just) noticeably sharper. But to me, that
- doesn't make up for the fact that it is 2x to 3x slower (even with the
- new&improved driver). My wife doesn't seem to mind the spped too much, but
- she has had spells of balky behavior, when paper just wouldn't feed right
- for days on end, then it's suddenly fine. I've never had ANY problems with
- the DW.
-
- Since we got the SW for $50 on an Apple promotion, it was a great deal. But
- if you're paying street prices, I'd vote for spending $60 extra for the DW
- any day!
-
- Hope this helps...
