- Folks,
-
- Back in the *OLD* days, long, long ago, I had an Apple II+
- computer.
-
- Now, this wasn't quite as bad as it sounds, boys and girls.
- In those days before running water and indoor plumbing, we
- didn't know what a great home computer system was. So, we made
- do with our 48k RAM (or 64k, if we were lucky), and we were
- *THANKFUL!*
-
- Anyway, There was a group around called AAA - the Apple Avocation
- Alliance. These folks would collect and distribute public
- domain software for the Apple computer (does this bring back
- any memories?). One of the games they had was called EAMON.
-
- EAMON was a D&D type game. You had a character with three
- attributes (strenght, dexterity, chasisma) who could learn
- spells. He/she would leave the basic disk where (s)he was
- stored and go off to other disks containing dungeon adventures.
- (places like Cave of the Mind, Nuclear Nightmare, The Death
- Star, Lair of the Minotaur, and scores of others).
- There, the character would slay monsters (as opposed to solving
- puzzles), gain treasure, and even could find friendly 'characters'
- who would follow him around and help him fight. The coolest
- thing about the whole deal was that it was all written in
- basic. You could create your own adventure using a special
- adventure-making disk, and get into the code to create all kinds
- of special effects that only worked with your adventure.
-
- Does this ring a bell with anyone?
-
- Anyway, the other day I was giving away my old Apple II+ to
- my sister's family so her two boys could have a computer. As
- I fondly booted up the Eamon game, I had a thought: What if
- someone would create something similar for the Macintosh? Sure,
- it would be all in text, but it could be fun making your own
- adventures and High School kids could use it to learn programming,
- and Macpascal is a pretty good language to write it in, and...
-
- Hey!
-
- So maybe I'll give this project a try. Maybe.
- What do all of you think? Does it sound worth doing?
- Would any of you be willing to pay a few bucks for it as
- "shareware?"
- Is the old AAA still around? If so, what's their address?
- I could use some more adventures and stuff.
-
- More important, has anyone ALREADY done something like this?
- I'd hate to waste the effort. Is there any good source of
- public domain (or shareware) programs for the Mac out there?
- Something like the AAA?
-
- So many questions, so few answers. I await eagerly some
- response.
